As the founder of our Abbey’s motherhouse, Archabbot Boniface Wimmer, O.S.B. is greatly responsible for our college’s existence.

This year, Benedictine College welcomed its largest freshman class in history.  This has become familiar news for our college as we enter our 11th straight year of growth.

As Benedictine celebrated 150 years of existence, speeches from the Abbot, the President, the keynote speaker, and the mayor all reminded us of the great gift we are given at Benedictine: a thorough education. 

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the father.” 

I was pondering what I would write an opinion about for the last issue of the 2007-2008 Circuit when I realized something. 

Rarely am I thankful for being a super-busy college student with 19 credit hours and a part time job with very little time for rest and relaxation. 

Whether you realize it or not, time is winding down in our small-town college atmosphere.

As we rev up for the 2008 Elections, political analysts are paying close attention to the Catholic vote, which is the “quintessential swing vote in American elections,” Luis Lugo of Pew told CNN last week. Candidates are also doing their best to win the youth vote.
