The BC Lady Ravens soccer team played a mini season of three offseason games against Rockhurst University and the University of Tulsa’s A and B teams this spring. The ladies went up against the Lady Hawks of Rockhurst in Kansas City April 1. In the first half of the game the Lady Ravens came out with high intensity. They controlled the ball, had many good shots on goal and were able to keep the Lady Hawks scoreless going into the half. They ended the half 0-0. At the beginning of the second half, Rockhurst came out hard and fast, but the Lady Ravens picked up their defense and freshman forward Courtney Danze scored. The Lady Ravens pulled out a 1-0 victory against the Lady Hawks. “There where no seniors and we were missing people because they were abroad,” junior midfielder and team captain Ellen Parker said. “We moved people around and they did really well in new spots”. Later that week, the Lady Ravens traveled to Oklahoma to go up against the University of Tulsa’s A and B squads. “We dominated the first half, but they were able to score at the end of the half,” Parker said. “Going into the second half, they were quicker and faster and at a more competitive level.” The ladies were unable to get a win against the NCAA Div. I team, losing 3-0. In the second game, this time against Tulsa’s B team, the Lady Ravens played hard and got more shots on the goal. “Carissa [Gregory, BC’s freshman goalkeeper] got several great saves,” junior midfielder Anne Schafer said. “But [Tulsa] stepped their game up and got the goals.” The Lady Ravens were unable to pull out a win against Tulsa’s B team, losing 4-0. “They played 160 minutes in one day, and they were good games,” head coach Lincoln Roblee said. “It was not about winning or losing but about the experiences. We play games like this to help us improve as a team and to become a more competitive team”. The Lady Ravens will be playing their annual spring alumni game tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Larry Wilcox Stadium. |
